George Horace Lorimer was an American journalist and author. He is best known as the editor of The Saturday Evening Post. His Letters From A Self-Made Merchant To His Son is a timeless collection of Gilded Age aphorisms from a rich man - a prosperous pork-packer in Chicago to his son, Pierrepont, whom he ‘affectionately’ calls ‘Piggy.’ The writing is subtle and brilliant. ‘One of the under-rated masterpieces of early American literature.’ F. R. Brown.

...and that when you're in the wrong you can't afford to lose it." Great book loaded with timeless wisdom from an individual I'd have liked to have met given his no nonsense quips. Comes across as very intelligent (maybe no surprise given his being the editor of the Saturday Evening Post at one time) and includes a very good image gallery at the close with references to the Armor meat-packing company that had me hunting for more info on the internet. Very good book and leave you with one other quote I really liked, "Puttimg off an easy thing makes it hard, and putting off a hard one makes it impossible."Product details

Letters from a SelfMade Merchant to His Son George Horace Lorimer 9781941129616 Books Reviews
There is so much of the advice John gives Pierrepont in the 1890s that are so relevant today.
I recommend this book to ANYONE! Great stories to go along with the message. Should be required reading for every senior in high school.
George Lorimer was a self-made man who became rich and prosperous. He learned many lessons in life and passed some of them onto his son, Pierreport, in well-written letters filled with ageless advice. This is a great collection of Lorimer’s letters.
Great book. Almost wish it were a true set of letters. However as a businessman myself, the parables are worth remembering.
I have read and given the print version of this book away to many young people. It's full of good advice and common sense. But this particular edition contains only shorthand and is therefore unreadable. I'm not sure why it was even reprinted in shorthand form. Make sure you get a print copy!
A book without words, seriously. The pages are filled with unreadable chicken scratch that looks more like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics than english.
packs more good advice into fewer pages than any other book i have read. you will love it and give it to your children
